I am unclear how a spore would be able to choose to infect or not infect a single species, unless infection is ultimately controllable by a Gravemind. In the books as well as on Halopedia, the Flood (as spores) are claimed to be simply a parasite at the base form. With the Primordial claiming that the flood can choose whether or not it will infect a person, I am unclear. As far as the Flood claiming that Humanity will be the next inheritors of the Mantle, I was conflicted about whether the Primordial was in fact, a Precursor Gravemind or if it was simply trying to use the Didact’s beliefs to demoralize his captor. The Precursors may have released the Flood as a final act of revenge against the children they had created (and subsequently been destroyed by). This could be where the last of the precursors fled to when they were defeated by the Forerunners. In Cryptum I believe that we are led to believe that the Flood came from another galaxy, specifically one of the Magellanic Clouds. The way that I interpreted the Primordial was that the Precursors created the flood as a biological weapon to be used against the Forerunners in the war between the two species.

I think this series will be similar to the last in that you will always fight someone maybe in this case the Didact, but there will really be a threat greater than that, maybe the Precusors, maybe the Master Builder, or even a new Primordial ( I know that may be a long shot) I feel like the true enemy won't be known until late. The Gravemind in Halo 3 always talked about becoming one with the Universe, so I think it was more of a ploy to convince the weak to convert. Luckily they saw that the answers lied within humanity and we are where we are. I think defeating the flood is the test, clearly the Forerunners failed. Like the Primordial said some escaped, so I feel that later on we will see our creators, and that will be a final test. The Forerunner feeling superior decided to take it upon themselves to take what the Precusors had left, but in reality were not meant to have, so they fought their creators.

The Precusors created the Mantle, then created Forunner and human. I think there is a lot of foreshadowing going on, and I don't know if it is something we will see with this trilogy or something that will be carried out in a later trilogy or even side series, but I have always thought there was more to happen in the upcoming series than the Didact being the primary antagonist. There may not be a real answer for any of these but I would still like to read your speculation and theories. Didact: “How can you control any of this? You’re stuck here-the last of your kind!” Primodial: “The last of this kind.” What does he mean by this? The last of this kind of flood(the precursor kind)? Only unity.” by unity, does he mean infection and unification like a gravemind? Is the Primodial just a copy of a precursor or are they the same like he claims? “We are the Flood. Does the infection mean that they have failed judgment? Does the act of defeating the flood mean that they have passed and can uphold the mantle? Or does the judgement come after they are unified like the primordial says? "The Flood will return when they are ripe-and bring them unity.” Timing.” The Primordial continues to talk about how the humans will be judged, in the events of halo 1, they find the flood and some humans are infected. Humans will be tested next.” “Can the Flood choose to infect, or not to infect?” “No immunity. Who were the creators? were the precursors still creating after they fled or was it just natural?

This makes me think that he isn't a precusor and is just another gravemind. Creation continued.” He says "Those who created you". he responded with “Those who created you were defied and hunted,” the Captive said. The Didact asks the Primordial if all precursors were flood (graveminds) like he was. These mostly include response answers from the primordial.

So I have just finished reading Primordium but there are still many things I don't understand about the second to last chapter.
